Add Platefolio to your home screen

Put Platefolio on your phone's home screen or your computer's dock, so it opens in its own window like an app.

Platefolio runs in your web browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens in its own window, like an app, without the browser’s address bar around it. Apps for iPhone and Android are on the roadmap. Until they’re out, this is the closest thing.

You can add it from any Platefolio page, including a recipe someone shared with you. Either way, it opens to your own recipes.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Platefolio in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen. If you don’t see it, scroll down the list.
  4. Tap Add.

Signing in the first time

On an iPhone or iPad, Platefolio on your home screen keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari’s. So the first time you open it, you’ll need to sign in again, even if you’re already signed in in Safari.

  • With Google: choose Continue with Google.
  • With email: choose Continue with email, then Email me a sign-in link. When the email arrives, type its 6-digit code into Code from the email and choose Sign in with code.

You stay signed in after that, the same as in a browser.

On an Android phone or tablet

  1. Open Platefolio in Chrome.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu, then Add to home screen. Some versions call it Install app.
  3. Tap Install.

On Android it shares Chrome’s sign-in, so if you’re signed in in Chrome, you’re signed in on your home screen too. Other browsers word the menu differently: look for Add to home screen or Install.

On a computer

  • Chrome or Edge: choose the install icon at the right end of the address bar, then Install.
  • Safari on a Mac: choose File, then Add to Dock. Like an iPhone, it keeps its own sign-in, so sign in with Google or with the code from the email.

Good to know

  • It needs an internet connection to load your recipes, the same as in a browser.
  • It keeps itself up to date. There’s nothing to download when Platefolio changes.
  • To remove it, delete it the way you’d delete any app. Your recipes stay in your account.
