Your first five minutes

Sign in, save a recipe from a link, try it in a few formats, and cook from it.

Five steps take you from a new account to cooking from a recipe you saved. Each one links to a longer article if you want more detail.

1. Sign in

Go to platefolio.app/app and choose Sign in with Google, or Sign in with Email and then Email me a sign-in link. There’s no password: the emailed link signs you in. If it hasn’t arrived after a few minutes, check your spam folder.

Find a recipe online and copy its address. In Platefolio, choose + New recipe, then From link. Paste the address into Recipe URL and choose Import recipe.

Platefolio fills in a form with the title, ingredients and steps it found. Nothing is saved yet: look it over, fix anything that came through wrong, then choose Save recipe.

More: Import a recipe from a link.

3. Try a different format

Your saved recipe opens as a web page. The tiles above it switch the same recipe to Cook mode, a Notecard, a Flowchart or Rails. Try a few.

Platefolio remembers the one you pick for this recipe, so it opens that way next time.

More: Display formats.

4. Choose how every recipe opens

Open the account menu (your picture or initial at the top of the page; on a phone, open the menu first) and choose Settings. Under Default Recipe View, pick the format you’d like most recipes to open in. A recipe where you’ve picked something else keeps its own choice.

5. Cook from it

Open your recipe in Cook mode. Tick off ingredients as you gather them, then work through one step at a time with Previous and Next. Your ticks are saved to your account, so you can pick up where you left off, even on another device. Start over clears them.
