Share a recipe or cookbook

Make a recipe or cookbook public, share its link, and make it private again.

Recipes and cookbooks are private until you make them public. Private ones are only visible to you and your household. Public ones get a link anyone can open, no account needed.

Share a recipe

  1. Open the recipe, choose More, then Share.
  2. Turn on Make public.
  3. Choose Share again to see the options: Copy link (or Share link on a phone), Share on Facebook, Share on X, and Pinterest. See Pin a recipe to Pinterest.

You can also turn sharing on or off in the recipe form, under Sharing.

Share a cookbook

  1. Open the cookbook, choose Options, then Share and Edit sharing settings.
  2. Under Sharing, turn the switch to Public.
  3. If some recipes in the cookbook are still private, you’re asked whether to make them public too. Choose Make public to share them all, or Skip recipes to share the cookbook without them. Private recipes don’t show up on the cookbook’s shared page.

Once the cookbook is public, Options then Share copies its link.

What people see

A shared recipe shows its photo, ingredients, steps and times, and where it came from. Readers can switch between the same display formats you can. If you’ve set a name under Display Name in Settings, it’s shown as who added the recipe. See Display name and dark mode.

A shared cookbook shows its cover, description and its public recipes, in your order.

The link works right away. Before a public recipe is listed anywhere else, like the public Recipes page, a person checks it. See Review of public recipes.

Anyone with a Platefolio account can save their own copy of a public recipe. See Save someone else’s recipe. Your favorites, ratings and cook counts are never shown.

Make it private again

For a recipe, open the recipe form and turn the Sharing switch back to Private, then save. For a cookbook, choose Options, then Edit this cookbook, and turn the switch back.

The link stops working. Copies other people already saved stay theirs.

A few things to know:

  • Making a cookbook private doesn’t make its recipes private. Any that were public stay public until you change each one.
  • Making a recipe private hides it from any public cookbook it’s in. The recipe form warns you before you save.
