Categories

Label recipes with categories, and rename or delete them in Settings.

Categories, like “Dinner” or “Baking”, are labels for your recipes. A recipe can have as many as you like, and your recipe list is grouped by them, like chapters in a book. A recipe with two categories shows up in both chapters, and one with none goes in a chapter called “Uncategorized”.

New accounts start with a few categories, so you can use them, rename them or delete them.

Add a category to a recipe

In the recipe form, start typing in Add a category and pick one from the list. If it doesn’t exist yet, choose the Create option at the bottom of the list. See Type a recipe in.

Manage categories in Settings

Open Settings and find Recipe Categories. Each category shows how many recipes use it.

  • Add one: type a name in the New category box and choose Add category.
  • Rename one: choose the pencil next to it, type the new name, then choose the check mark. Every recipe in that category picks up the new name.
  • Delete one: choose the trash can, then Yes, delete. Only the category is deleted. Its recipes stay, and any that had no other category move to “Uncategorized”.

Names aren’t case sensitive, so you can’t have both “Quick” and “quick”.

Categories or cookbooks?

A category is a label for filtering. A cookbook is a collection you put together on purpose, in your own order. See Cookbooks.
