Invite people to your household

Share one recipe collection with the people you cook with.

A household is the group of people who share one collection of recipes, cookbooks and categories. Everyone in it can see, add and edit everything. It’s meant for people you actually cook with, like a family, a couple or roommates. To show someone a single recipe, share it instead.

Send an invite

  1. Go to Settings, under Household.
  2. Type their email address in Invite by email and choose Invite.

They get an email with a link to join. The invite shows your household’s name, which you can change in the same section. An invite waits in the list, marked “invite pending”, until they answer. To cancel one, choose the X next to it.

Invites expire after 7 days. If one runs out, send a new one.

Accept an invite

Open the link in the email and choose Accept or Decline. You need to be signed in with the same email address the invite was sent to.

When you accept, your own recipes move into the shared household, and everyone there can see them. The invite page tells you how many recipes that is before you choose.

You can’t accept an invite while you’re sharing a household with someone else, so leave it first. If it’s your household, remove the other members first.

If you pay for your own Head Chef subscription, cancel it before you accept, under Account Type in Settings. See Manage your subscription. Once it’s cancelled you can accept straight away.

Who can do what

Everyone in the household can add, edit and delete recipes, cookbooks and categories. A few settings belong to the household’s owner, the person who created it:

  • the household’s name
  • the Default Recipe View
  • inviting and removing people
  • the subscription

To leave, or to remove someone, see Leave a household or remove someone.
