An ingredient is in the wrong step
Why cook mode, Flowchart or Rails can put an ingredient on the wrong step, and how to fix it.
In Cook mode, each step lists the ingredients that go in at that step, under You’ll need. Platefolio works that list out for you, and sometimes it guesses wrong.
Why it happens
When you save a recipe, Platefolio reads each step and looks for the ingredients it names. An ingredient goes on the first step that mentions it. That works for most steps, but it misses when:
- A step doesn’t name its ingredients. “Whisk in the dry ingredients” doesn’t say flour or sugar, so they end up somewhere else.
- The step calls an ingredient something else. If the list says “scallions” and the step says “green onions”, the two don’t match.
- No step mentions an ingredient at all. It’s put on the last step, since an ingredient no step names is usually a garnish or something to serve with.
The Flowchart and Rails formats are drawn from the same guess, so an ingredient in the wrong step in cook mode is in the wrong place in those charts too.
Fix it
- Open the recipe, choose More, then Edit flowchart.
- Find the step and tick or untick its boxes under Ingredients entering here.
- Choose Save graph.
Only someone in the recipe’s household can edit its chart. On a recipe someone shared with you, save it to your own recipes first. See Save someone else’s recipe.
